Do you Kiss?

..  .. . . .. . .. . .. .. . . . . .

Are you a good kisser or a bad one?  Let me explain why I ask, this...

Faithful are the wounds of a friend,
But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
~ Proverbs 27:6 {KJV}

An honest answer in like a kiss on the lips.  ~ Proverbs 24:26 {NIV}
It's Valentine's Day, today, and of course kisses are on the brain, along with hugs and a whole lot more.

Our love for our spouses, family and friends can really be displayed (in various ways) on this special day and it should.

But what about the verse I've just highlighted above?

Faithful are the wounds of a friend...

What does that mean, exactly?

When we're honest with our friends... even when it hurts... it's amazing how the "love" relationship will deepen, withstand hard times, and grow even stronger... blossoming into something truly genuine.

Honesty, is a real value in any relationship.

But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

What may appear like "a kiss of acceptance", a "plug-in" to a circle of friends, or just another step forward in a relationship - can often times, unfortunately, be just that...deceitful.

Sometimes we don't choose to see the picture for what it really is.

We don't always want the hard, honest truth from our loved ones, do we?  The ones who bare their souls to love us as we should be loved.

So, I ask again.  Are you a good kisser or a bad one?

If you're willing to be REAL - the relationships you find yourself in will, at times, have pain (a.k.a. wounds) involved, correct?  It should almost be expected.  That, in and of itself, makes you a good friend.

No one likes to be thought of as a bad friend or even a deceitful one.  But, let's face it... we've all been this way with our loved ones at times.

We mean to "not hurt someones feelings" - so we avoid the truth.
We "butter up", with compliments, only to impress.
We smile and say nice things to their face - but turn to someone else, and share "slander" instead.
We mutter "ill-will" in our hearts, but on the surface we're friendly and appropriate.

Friends, this is what the kiss of an enemy looks like... it's all deceitfulness, and, it's bad.

****
Earlier this past week, we were reading the Bible together as a family before bedtime.  I had been praying about what I was going to share today and these next several verses hit me as a direct correlation to the verses I previously shared here in Proverbs 27 and Proverbs 24.

They read...

Whoever speaks the truth gives honest evidence, but a false witness utters deceit.
There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, but those who plan peace have joy...

Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, but those who act faithfully are his delight.
A prudent man conceals knowledge, but the heart of fools proclaims folly.

~Proverbs 12: 17-20, 22-23 (ESV)
