Old Time Sunday Hymn Sing | Rock of Ages

~ Rock of Ages~
A. M. Toplady / Dr. Thomas Hastings

Rock of Ages cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in thee,
Let the water and the blood,
From thy riven side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure; Cleanse me from its guilt and pow'r.

Not the labor of my hands,
Can fulfill the law's demands;
Could my zeal no respite know,
Could my tears forever flow,
All for sin could not atone, Thou must save, and thou alone.

Nothing in my hands I bring,
Simply to the cross I cling;
Naked, come to thee for dress;
Helpless, look to thee for grace,
Foul, I too the fountian fly, Wash me, Saviour, or I die.

While I draw this fleeting breath,
When my heart-strings break in death,
When I soar to worlds unknown,
See thee on thy judgement throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in thee.

  1. If you had been here in this room with me you may have wanted to plug your ears. When I saw the lyrics to this beautiful hymn I couldn't help myself. I had to belt it out. It may not have been pretty, but it felt good. And I know that the one I was singing too thought that it was perfect!
