Old Time Sunday Hymn Sing | Trust and Obey

. . .. . .. . . .. . .. .. .. .. .. . . .

~ Trust and Obey~
John H. Sammis/ Daniel B. Towner
When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there's no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

Not a burden we bear,
Not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss,
Not a frown or a cross,
But is blest if we trust and obey.

(Refrain)

But we never can prove
The delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows,
For the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

(Refrain)

Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet,
Or we'll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do,
Where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.

I just want to share a quick (cute) memory of my younger brother, Justin.

When he was little, maybe 4 or 5 yrs old, and whenever we would sing this song at our church on Sunday mornings, he would start to cry.
When we asked him about it, he told us that he didn't like when we sang that song.
When asked, why?, his response was that he didn't like everybody singing "Justin Obey".

I should ask him if he still remembers this...

  1. I love this hymn. I remember it being sang when I was a young girl at the funeral of a young friend who had been killed in a road accident at the tender age of 16 years. I get tears too when I hear it, but for different reasons than your brother, that was so cute!

  2. Beautiful song.... Love the church in the picture too, I believe it's behind our house and through the woods, Sumneytown, PA :-)

  3. That is so cute! Love that personal story.

    My daughter, Grace, always smiled during certain hymns, because she thought everyone was singing about her, also.
