A Daybook in April

 .. .. ... ... . .. .. .. .. ... .. .. ... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ... .. . .. . .. .

FOR TODAY ~ Happy Monday morning, to you!

Outside my window... the raindrops are falling.  It is a beautiful but very grey day, today.  Just lovely.

I am thinking... oh my goodness!  Here it is, two days away from the end of April and I almost forgot about doing this here Daybook..  Thanks for reading along.

I am thankful... for such a hardworking husband.  This man, my man!, "ENJOYS" getting his hands dirty - every once in awhile.  He is not all study books and computers...as one might think.  What a great woodcutting weekend, working alongside our brother-in-law!  I'm also thankful for safety...throughout the weekend.  God is good.

In the kitchen... A TICKING CLOCK!   always a ticking clock.  And coffee.  Always coffee!

I am wearing... a long jean skirt with a salmon, purple and green flowered blouse.

I am creating... (last evening) I almost finished up another bag order for a dear friend of mine.  She has been so patient. (Thank you, Annie!) Just a couple more stitches and it needs a name!  I will show pictures of it when I can..

I am going...  to have to get milk, today and probably some bread - unless I get to baking some.  Which will probably be more like it.  That is, if I have enough flour...?

I am wondering... Did you sleep good last night?  I don't know why - but around here we always ask each other that question- when we first wake up (the kids, too!).  I guess it is just another way of knowing and being known. ;)

I am reading... "Begin each day with a grateful heart"... which is a saying written on the side of my latest and favorite coffee cup.  That said... here is what I'm hoping.

I am hoping... to host another GATHERING through Blessings Unlimited, sometime next month.  So stay tuned.  That is where this particular mug came from and I LOVE it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am looking forward to...the possibility of including you ... my dear friend and reader... into the benefit of placing an order for yourself or at best, entering a giveaway (of monetary value) towards something of your choice at that point.  Stay tuned.  Hey, I said that already, didn't I?  Well, it's true.  More details are forthcoming...

I am learning... to appreciate the distinct (and differing) love languages of each of my children and my husband.  It's neat.

Around the house... it feels good!  This thing that is still happening.  Spring Cleaning!  Yes, it is!! How many bags and boxes moved out of here the other day?  Can't remember..

I am pondering... why?  Why is it, though, that as soon one room is "completed and clean" - you turn around and the dust has settled - once more - and it is time to do it all over, again?

A favorite quote for today... taken from "Life's Little Treasure Book On Marriage and Family"..
Hold your child's hand every chance you get.  The time will come all too soon when he or she won't let you.
I'm finding this little nugget of truth and wisdom to be so true...already!!
Updated to Add:  I just got a sweet email letter today from an old friend... and I want to include a quote in my post today - of something she said.  It brought me to tears.  I loved it.  She said..
To be in our children's memories tomorrow we need to be in there lives today and at the end of the day, that leaves little time for much else;) ~ Amanda.

One of my favorite things... having my son or daughter whisper "secrets" (or whatever) into my ear.  Too Cute!  It usually starts out with, "Mom, I have to tell you something..."!

A few plans for the rest of the week:  It looks like a normal week, for us... a couple of Doctor appointments, as we enter the month of May, and a major 6-week grocery shop coming up this Saturday.

A peek into my day...

Another laundry day, of sorts...despite the weather.

What gives Spring it's Spa-"ring"?

. ... .. .. ... .. .. .. ... .. .. .. ... .. .. .. . . .. . .. .. ... .. .. . .. .. . ..
The most NEW and BEAUTIFUL time of year!

When everyone and everything finds a certain bounce and an extra spring in their step.

Some of the sights and sounds of Springtime, for sure, need to be noted..

Have you noticed - everywhere - the varying shades of green?  I love green - one of my favorite colors.

Right NOW!  it is so prevalent.

You have been noticing, as well as I, all the song birds and raindrops..

I love these photos... the sound of both is simply beautiful.

{via pinterest}

The song of the birds - singing just after a beautiful rain - is so pretty.

{via pinterest}

Are you one to go out singing in the rain?  I should more often.
I should let my kids do it more often..
I just love the sounds of raining falling on thirsty ground; pinging on rusty tin roofs; against a windowpane.

{via pinterest}
Have you noticed flowerbeds, garden and fields?  The dirt is getting turned over.  The smell of fresh plowed earth is just unexplainable.  Don't you agree?

It really reminds me of where and how man has been designed and birthed.
The Scripture reminds us that Man was formed from the dust of the ground and {God}breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living creature. (Genesis 2:7)

This is really the ONLY way anything has life.

When trees begin to bloom; their buds are bursting forth everywhere... along with the pollen.. I know I can certainly appreciate this newness again.

The same is true for the flowers.
Cannot wait to start throwing in some seeds and seedlings... and see what comes of them.
In the meantime...I was trying to enjoy these.

((I will say, I'm so glad I got a photo of these while I got a chance.))
The sound of a weed-whacker is not a pleasant sound around here, for me... especially when it hacks off bluebells and peony bushes trying to get started.  TWICE, already this season.

But.  We won't talk about it.

When Spring throws it's RING - I get hooked every time.
As long as I slow down long enough to notice.

Enjoy your Springy weekend.

Continuing to Pray..

. .  . ..... . .. .. .  .... .. . . . ..  .... . .. .. ...  .. ... . ... ..

Do you ever wonder if God is getting your mail?  You know - all of those prayers sent HIS way but you never seem to get a firm response?  At least, yet!  I've had a few of those recently.  However.  I can (and will) still cling to HIS Word which reminds me..

Call upon ME, and I will answer...  Jeremiah 33:3 (KJV)

Let us not become weary in doing good; for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. ~ Galatians 6:9 (NIV)

Pray continually. ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (NIV)

Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear.  ~ Isaiah 65:24

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard yours hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.  ~ Philippians 4:6-7

These are only a few...

I'm encouraged.  Are you?

Let's pray for one another. Shall we?   Friend, is your heart heavy tonight?  If you have anything specific you would like prayer for, let me know.  I would love to pray for you and with you!

She don't know she's beautiful..

. ... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. . ... ... .... ... .. .. .. .. .. ... .. .. .. ... .. . .. ..
This line, She don't know she's beautiful, kept running through my mind, this morning.  I know it is a line of lyric in a country song..  But that isn't what made me think of it.

Do you have any idea what did?

Tulip Flower Wallpaper 4
{photo source}

You see, I have a baby girl (soon to be two years of age) who, when she is in the midst of pulling all strings to get her own way...

She is still beautiful.

I have a four year old daughter who when she is outright pouty and all bunches of whining because she didn't win the game or what have you..

She is still beautiful.

My girls.  They don't know this about themselves - unless I tell them.
I do... because, I love them!

The same goes for myself.

There are days we honestly don't deserve to be called beautiful.

But it says it right here, in Ecclesiastes 3:11.  This is what Scripture says about our Creator..

He has made EVERYTHING beautiful... in its time.

And everything that He has made - He declares as good. (Genesis 1:31)

This includes us as people, His created.

And how do we know were beautiful? We don't, really, unless we're told.
I like how these verses apply and encourage our hearts, as well.

I Peter 3:3-5
For beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes.  Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit which is of great worth in God's sight.  For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to makes themselves beautiful.

Sometimes to obtain this type of beauty takes time.  And to have this sort of beauty - well, it needs to be cultivated. Encouraged.  And declared.

If you see this kind of beauty in someone, will you tell them so ~ today?!?!?!

If someone did tell you this today - would you believe it to be true?  And humbly accept it..?

So, you can too..

.. .... .. .. ... . .. .. .. .... ... .. .. .... .. ... .. .. .. .. .. ... .. .... .. .. .. ... ..
Cherish the Plain and Ordinary of Today...

What really does that look like?

I said on Friday that this is what I wanted to do.  So, over the weekend, I set out to really think through what this meant for me. I know I posted a similar post some time ago.  But I don't want to forget and go on - not counting my blessings.
Hopefully - you were inspired to note and cherish the plain and ordinary of your day, as well.

A few that come to mind:

Hanging several loads of laundry under clear blue skies..
Green grass, lush, under my feet..despite the mud-puddles, throughout the lawn, and children who like to slop around in them with good shoes on..
The songbirds singing away..
My husband, the handy-man, that he is...over and over... putting his talent(s) to work..
An Acceptance Letter come through for my Aubrey- into Pre-Kindergarten, for the Fall..
The battle with kitchen ants is still on.. but with it comes a call for patience and persistence..
these are just a few!
One more..
The other morning my five year old son and I were talking about Scrambled Eggs!  How I make them, today, is how my mother (Grandma!) always made them for me, growing up.
"Mom, I know Grandma makes good scrambled eggs - but yours are way better!"

(I say, I learned from the best!)

.. ooh! that felt so good to hear. Talk about getting the warm and fuzzies..

How about you?  What were some of your cherished few, from over the weekend - or maybe just from this morning?  Leave them in the comment section below..

I would love to hear from you today!

"too bad that puddle wasn't a river"

. ... .. .. ... .. .. .. ... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ... ... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ... ... . .. .. .. .. .

Spring Cleaning: It is still in progress.  Okay...

Since I live in Redneck Country.  Meaning, I live in a house with my husband. ;) (smile! Hey, we joke about this..)  I thought it would be a brilliant idea to take a couple of my very dusty wreaths - that I have hanging in my kitchen - out to the large puddle, that had formed overnight in our front yard.

Cleaning them, there, was a cinch.  I hung them off the porch to dry...

My husband not being very fond of the "bird-nest-type thingy" (ahem, wreaths...) said this, when I told him what I had done..

"Hmm! Too bad that puddle wasn't a river...(said with a wink and a smirk!)"

I am grateful that I was able to laugh about it then...and, I'm still chuckling about it now. I like my wreaths...

I liked my "redneck" way/idea for cleaning them, even more.  I think, down deep, he was impressed!

Here is one way NOT to Spring Clean..

Two long-loved coffee mugs, lost their handles, on the same day or there about...

Again, beings we live in Redneck Country - an immediate suggestion was made, that they could get turned into pen holders.  Which, if I recall... we have one in the house (same sort of mug) already, from along time ago... which, at that point-in-time, the mug turned into a pen holder was my idea.

So, my question is, have I turned "redneck" or have I been one all along?

Enjoy your day!

Liebster Award

 . .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. . ... .. . .. ... .. .. . ... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ... .. . .. . . ..
A couple of weeks? ago I was nominated for a Liebster Award!
What is a Liebster Award?

A Liebster Award is a traveling award that is awarded to new bloggers (although, I'm not that new!!) with less than 200 followers. Those nominated then pass the award on to 11 other bloggers who also have less than 200 followers.
I was nominated by my great blogging bud - Kaitlin, from Homemaker Design. Thank you, so much, for your nomination!

Along with the nomination, there are a few rules I have to follow within this post.
  1. Post eleven facts about yourself.
  2. Answer the questions the tagger has set for you and create eleven questions for people you’ve nominated.
  3. Choose eleven people (with fewer than 200 followers) to give this award to and link them in your post.
  4. Go to their page and tell them.
  5. Remember, no tag backs.
  • Green is my favorite color - but only certain shades.
  • I'm not a Scaredy Cat.  I mean, I don't mind bugs, earthworms, mice (dead or alive), snakes, ants, dust bunnies, hairballs, etc.  I just don't always like it when they're out of their territory and in mine.
  • I have never had to shave my face..true!  :)
  • I wish I could play piano or guitar.  Preferably acoustic guitar..
  • my first car was a Silver Plymouth Arrow (or Mitsubishi Jet), 5-speed.  That is what I learned to drive on.
  • oh, and I failed my drivers' test minutes before even taking the road/course test. I had to come back another day.  Long story.. true.  That.
  • I was twenty-three years old when my dad passed away. I am the oldest of nine children: six girls first and then my three brothers followed. (freebie fact for you, there).
  • I make (and eat!) SPAM - at least once, every other week.  The kids love it!  Spamburgers is what we call them.
  • About 18 yrs ago, I traveled as a Nanny for a Prison Ministry Team, based out of Goshen, Indiana for about 6 months. I helped to care for their three young children.  Imagine this: Five adults and three kids on an 8' x 45' bus...talk about needing to grow in flexibility!  Wonderful experience...for sure.
This is hard to come up with stuff.  I must have led (am still leading) a very boring life..  Let's see, what do I have so far?  Nine facts?  Okay..two more..

  • I met my husband on eHarmony!!  almost nine years ago.  That was the best thing I could have ever done.  Tell me, I ain't right...
  • Shhh!  Fact #11.  I'm not really sure if I'm ready to share this yet or not... but I think I'm really close to writing (finishing up) a General Interest/House and Home sort of Coffee-Table type of book...Lord Willing, something will come of it one day.  Maybe only in my dreams... but it is okay to dream, pray! and see what might come of it... right?
These are the questions that my friend Kaitlin asked of me..

1. Why do you love living where you do?
It's where I grew up.  I know EVERYBODY - or so it seems.  My "circle" goes pretty far..., too.  So - my hubby (who is from the South) says, "I can't take you anywhere without you knowing someone or recognizing them or better yet, that you're related to".
2. Quilt, comforter or duvet?
Quilt girl all the way...
I'm so grateful that I've been blessed to have been given a "taste" into quilt-making.  The Art-form that it is... and I sure do wish I had room in my home to set up to do more of it..
3. What is your cooking style? And your favorite ‘recipe’?
My cooking style?  Do you not know? Have you not heard??  I am a "dump" cook... all thanks to my Grammy.  You can read more about it HERE!  My favorite recipe (at the time) is the one that is being asked for by someone who just enjoyed the dish!
4. Coffee or tea – and how do you take it?
HOT.  I'm assuming this question is referring to hot over cold.  I will take Black Coffee - anytime of day. Thank you!  ;)
5. What kind(s) of music do you enjoy?
I grew up singing Acappella - four part harmony.  So to find music that I can sing along with comfortably is:  Southern Gospel, Country Gospel, some Country music and Praise & Worship.  I enjoy Contemporary Christian Music, too, don't get me wrong.  But there are very few groups/singers out there that I can harmonize with.. in that genre.
6. Company calls – they’ll be there in 20 minutes – what do you do?
First, I would have to take a deep breath.  Knowing that my house may not be ready... but making sure that my heart is...I would quickly throw around a few "food ideas" of what I could serve to eat and prep the coffee maker.  :)
7. What is one skill, which you do not possess, that you admire in others?
Oh boy... I guess it would be to ask right questions; interesting questions, to draw others out more.  To keep a conversation going... well.  I don't engage the way I think I would like to... and I love it when I there are those out there who can keep a meaningful conversation going and it makes sense.  Its not all fumbly and mumbly like I so often bring to the table.
8. You have a free afternoon – no hubby, no kids, no responsibilities- how do you spend it?
Ahh!  this has happened for me... and I admit, I don't even know where to start.  There is much I would like to do, want to do, have to do (this is not responsibilities!)... and so I usually waste a lot of time figuring out, like I said, where to begin and what to do first.
9. What is your favorite piece of furniture that you own and why?
This one is hard.  It's not so much the furniture we own - because it can feel so random - but it is those random pieces that have been handed down from family.  Heirloom pieces?
10. Current reading material?
I'm still soaking up the material we "gathered" from the Weekend to Remember.  Books from there on Marriage and Relationships.   Oh, and also, our small group (with Church) is going through the Five Love Languages book, by Gary Chapman.
11. What is your go-to scripture verse?
I would have to say, probably Isaiah 43:1-4, 18-19 and 45:2-12
Again, that is so hard.. to answer.  There is so much I cling to... and yet, not hard enough.  You know?

Well, there you have my eleven little known facts, about me... and my answers to Kaitlin's questions.
I thought of several people... whom I would love to pass this on to.  I hope they'll accept this award...
and, I'm sorry if I don't follow all of the rules.  This won't be 11 other bloggers (I don't think) and I'm not so sure they all have less than 200 followers.
But here we go!!

Kelli - Learning as We Go
Jenny - Baily and Me 2  (Where I live and Create)
Clarita - The Cottage at 341 South
Katy - The Country Blossom
Hope - Hopeful Things
Mary Ann - Mary Ann's House
Mrs. Brown - Roller Mill Farms
Leanna - Thoughts and Whatnots  (I understand, you just had a new baby a couple of weeks ago.)
Christine - Vista Woman
Dori - The Red Feedsack

Alright - so I will hit eleven..  Last, but not least..

Dee - Collector of Moments  (Dee, I know you're gone for a month or two - but I'll wait to hear from you, later..)

Shew!  Here are my eleven questions.  I'll contact each of these ladies on their individual blogs, letting them know I nominated them for this fine Liebster Award and hopefully they'll accept it and take it from there.

1. Your blog title/name?  How did it come about... is there a story?
2. Books.  Who is your favorite author?  What is your style?
3. Speaking of Style.  Who/what inspires you in your wardrobe selection?
4. If you're a mom! - Any advice you could share?  If you're not... What do you wish you could share?
5. In blogging.. Do you share your Faith?  Why or Why not?
6. Collections... What is yours?  Baskets?  Cookbooks?  - How did you get started?
7. Do you have that one "best friend" - what makes her a great friend?  Give me just two-three words.
8. Pizza or Stromboli? Would that be homemade or "Take Out"?
9. Camera advice...is needed.  What would you recommend?
10. And your favorite flower is...?
11. Tell me that one idiosyncrasy you LOVE about yourself..

Thank you again, Kaitlin - for nominating me.  This was lots of fun... and way to time consuming.. eeks!  By the way,,, Kaitlin is doing a NEW thing over on her blog.  She is calling it a 1000 Words - A Visual Journey of the Everyday.  Basically it means linking up with a single photo, once a week, that speaks in it's own way - a Thousand Words.  Check it out!!  I'm sure she wouldn't mind if a few more would join in.

White Chocolate Truffle Cupcakes. Check. Check.

. ... .. .. . ... . .. .. .. ... ... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ... .. .. . .. . . .. . ...
Good day, dear friends.  I surely haven't been trying to hold out on you or anything with blogging.  But just have been a tad-bit busy.  It's okay.  The progress is still in action..

I just had to share with you..this!
Remember those cupcakes?  Those White Chocolate Truffle Cupcakes?

The ones that somebody just had to make, back at Easter?  As in Me?

These... are them!

Were they ever delectable!  VERY rich, and very sweet.  But, I'm sure I don't have to tell you that - just by looking at them.

::Tip:: Don't put them in the fridge, or set them outside, on the porch, on a cold and "rainy" day - because they don't stay lush and melty and gooey and "full of molten surprise".  They get hard!!  And Crunchy inside.  Still, they're tasty... just not the same.

It changes the whole-what-you'd-expect coming out of these babies.

Enjoy the rest of your Monday!!  I'm here running several loads of laundry, cleaned my oven (yuk!) and now that I've got sweeper bags... I'm planning to go back and finish up some (serious) vacuuming..

Plus, I've figured out what I want to make for dinner, tonight:
Smothered Chicken (with mushrooms, fresh spinach, cheese and bacon) and baked potatoes... is what it will be.

Check. Check.

By the way, I had a hard and somewhat difficult but fabulous weekend...it ended with Waffles and Ice Cream.  What could get better than that?

How about you?

It's Progress - Not Perfection!

. .. .. .. . .. .. .. .. .. . .. .. . .... . .. ... ..  .. .. .. .. ... .. .. .... .. .. .. .. .

We just wanted to "check in" with you all!

We wanted to let you know we're still in the throw's of Spring Cleaning.
But one thing is true..

It's Progress.  Not Perfection!

and in just saying that... that has helped us tremendously to stick to task, work together (well!) and to come out on the other end with a smile.  Still!

It's been hard.  But progress is certainly being made..

There still is MUCH to do.

So, I've decided that blogging will still very much be sporadic over here.  I just wanted to let you know that, and to let you know we're still here... and missing you!
