{re-post} When it is in your power to act...

. . .. . ... .. ... .. . .... ... . .. .. . . . .. ..

Yesterday, while reading my devotions, out of Proverbs chapter 3, I found a verse that got me to thinking. Actually, it's a couple of verses that have grabbed my attention before and it all came rushing back - afresh!

"Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act.
Do not say to your neighbor, 'Come back later, I'll give it tomorrow', when you now have it with you." ~ Proverbs 3:27-28
We all have it within us (those of us who are children of God, because of the Holy Spirit residing in us) to be faithful encouragers, not just sometimes, but always,  to our fellow brothers and sisters in the Lord.  I know how it is.  I want to send someone a note to let them know I've been thinking about them or praying for them, and life happens. The "to do" list is already rather long.  I quickly forget or get distracted.  Maybe it's pure procrastination - by simply saying, "Oh, I'll do that tomorrow".

We all know a timely word or deed when it comes.  We have had it happen to us. Right??   Someone shared specifically to our need.  Whoever offered that "word" or deed was faithful.  They did not withhold... it was within their power to act...they had it and gave it - NOW!

Be encouraged.  But, what about you?  Are there specific things you've been meaning to follow through on and/or to act upon.  The Scripture is clear in asking us to determine to withhold nothing, especially when we have the power to act and accomplish something good.  We just need to do it.

Here are a few ways that I thought of to better communicate God's grace to others, and, for doing this myself (because I am preaching to the choir, here):
MAYBE- just maybe it's also a step in this direction; to extend forgiveness to someone who has sinned against us and maybe it just means taking that first step towards reconciliation towards that person.
There are boundless ways to show God's grace through forms of hospitality (because this is really what this is all about).  I like what these two verses have to say about this as well.
" Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.  Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers". ~Galatians 6: 9-10
I know me.  I have many, many days when I don't feel like it.  I have nothing left to give.  And, I am sure you have those kinds of days, too.  If we don't give up... we will reap a harvest.  I love that.  Sometimes it's not about us,...but we're just meant to be faithful...as encouragers. Doing good.  It's kind of like the rushing river in the picture above.  Our lives are to be that constant flow, that rush, that source of refreshment... we're forever connecting with people in ways that we have no idea how we truly affect them.

The end result of "doing good" may never be known to us here on this earth.  Are we really refreshing others, though?  That is the question.

: : Have I encouraged you, today?  If so, find a simple and tangible way to pass it on to someone else.
It's in your power to do so... so, go ahead. Don't wait until tomorrow.

Of course, please feel free to leave a thought or comment on how you have been a recipient of a timely word or deed. And, how did that have an affect on you?

Five Minute Friday :: favorite // Friday's Finds

. .. ... .. .. .. ... .. . ... .. ... . ... .... ... . ... .. . .. . ..  .. .
Having an appointment - earlier this morning... I left the house on this beautiful day.  The kiddos were left at home with Daddy as he was able to enjoy the day off of work - due to the 4th of July Holiday.  Ahhh.. a few moments by myself.

The drive was lovely.  Windows down.  The sights and smells of the hayfields and surrounding area were just what I needed.

The soft sounds of a quiet radio program playing in the background.  Encouragement from some radio preacher speaking truth in volumes.
He said...

"Vision without action is just a daydream.
Action without vision is a nightmare."

I don't know if that was a quote from himself or from somewhere else... but, I had to pull over, in a safe area, to write it down before I forgot it.  Loved that!!

Moments like these are just the fuel I need to "settle down", refresh and nourish my soul...in efforts to get back into the loud and busy of some of my favorite people in the world.

Oh my...

Today's prompt was : favorite

LOL... and look what we've found on the front porch!!  A mystery girl - trying to escape the crazy's in the pool.   I don't blame her one bit.  (smile!)

A fun part to add to this post - bringin back on old favorite meme I used to do... called Friday's Finds!
I haven't done one of these in while...  it felt good to bring it back in here on this post today!

And, then... I came home, from my appointment, to these lovelies sitting on the kitchen counter.
Here a friend had stopped by with a thinking-of-you bouquet.

Nice... and just simply perfect to accompany my newest food favorite... sitting there in the bowl!!
Thank you, Becky!! Sorry... I missed you when you came to call.

Five Minute Friday:: Fill / Friday Finds :: Sit a spell!

. ... .. .. ... .. . ... ... .. .. . ... . .. ... ... .. ... . . .. . . ..
Looking forward to keeping on for awhile with the *new* Five Minute Friday - link up.  It's in new hands this week and for forever now, for forever how long.  :)  I thank you, Kate, for keeping it alive.  I've been enjoying adding my post(s) to the lineup... and it's been encouraging ... the feedback that comes with it.  One of the "requirements" is that your neighbor who signs up after yours needs (or, should) to come by and share a word of encouragement or at least an "hello"... as support for fellow writers out there.  It's a lot of fun!!
The call is out there!  Join in...

Today's prompt is:  fill
:: go::

If I'm not careful it would take more than 5 minutes to say what all it is that I could fill in one day.
I mean it.
I fill the coffee maker
the dishpan
the washing machine
the wash line
the dishes with food
the bathtub
the calendar
I fill time (with its demands).

These all have a reason to be filled... for various situations.
I think about how or what fills me.
God's Word
moments of joy
simple pleasures
songs..

I can't give out if I'm not filled up.
The other day we noticed this row of birds upon the neighbors wash line.

Their momentary stop in flight filled me with wonder
amazed at the kindness of God to remind me..
Filling others with presence of Jesus is so important and vital
Need it be little or a lot.
Fill the note cards...
fill the stationary..
fill the envelops...
fill the gas tank - go for a visit!
Fill someone else's heart with a smile.

Why does it take the birds to remind me?
:: stop ::

Welcome (as well)  to Friday's Finds!

Looking out the back kitchen window... we were amazed to see a whole flock of birds... just swoop down onto our neighbors wash line.  The children could hardly contain themselves as I ran for my camera...

We wondered if the birds thought the pins on the line were more of their kind; that they figured they'd stop by to, sit a spell and say hello!!  :)

Do you see it?  Doesn't the clothespin, at quick glance, remind you of of birds...and their tail feathers, etc.?
A simple pleasure like laughter with friends creates a contagious bond of affection and friendship. ~ Anonymous

Plans this weekend; How will this weekend be filled?  Does it involve stopping by for a "random" visit, to just sit a spell?  Are you ready for someone to do that to you?  Why do we hold back...?
I've been pondering this one.
I appreciated how this weeks FMF prompt was the word: fill!

Have a wonder-filled weekend!!

Friday's Finds :: Chair // Five Minute Friday :: Belong

. .. ... .. ... ... ... .. .... .. .. .. .. .. ... . .... ... . .. ..
How to marry these two meme's together?
Here goes!
Welcome friends,  to both Friday's Finds and Five Minute Friday!
  Five Minute Friday
Friday's Finds :  featuring a find of no particular value or sentiment, no reason or rhyme and yet, exactly for all those reasons just mentioned.

This morning while running errands; dropping my older daughter off at camp and heading toward the bank, I saw this older looking chair out by the side of the road. With a sign...

FREE!

I knew I had an open van and room enough to "pick it up" and bring it home.
That is.  If it wasn't broken.  If it was.  Would it be fixable?
I liked it, immediately, at my first glance.
But, I drove by...
thinking!  If it's still there - on my way back, past.  I'll stop.

You see... I struggle to stop - for free!
I worry.  What will people think of me hauling off someone else's "trash"?
I wrestled.  It could be my newest treasure!!!

***
I came home to discover this prompt for Five Minute Friday.  The word is: belong!
How ironic, is that?

:go:

So, the chair is home!
Here is where it belongs.
Jayne and I looked it over, it appears fine.
We dusted it off.
And, now... I'm sitting on it.  Writing to you... and all who read.

It belongs.

I got to thinking how this relates to me as a treasure of God.
I once was abandoned?
Left to ....whatever?
On the sidelines...
I just needed someone to pull over.  To stop!
Set aside their cares and concerns and think of me!
I needed someone to carry me home!

I belong!

So, do you!
As a part of God's family.  We are accepted.  Brought in!
We are HIS treasure...

It's a comfortable place to be.
A good sit.  A good fit.
:stop:

Five Minute Friday is being hosted over at Crystal Stine's blog today!  Join in, with us. You're welcome, to do so.  All the how-to's are explained there...

As well, have a wonderful weekend.  And, God bless!
Wait.  One more thing.  Here is another song on my heart and mind...
Kind of perfect with this post today.
Hope you enjoy!

Five Minute Friday :: Hands // Friday's Finds :: Busy Hands

... .. .. .. .... .. .. .... .. .. .. . .. .... .. . .. .. .. .. . .

:Go:

Little hands.
That fit in mine.

So small.
so soft.
So tender.

Willing.
Ready.
Eager.

Mine?

Big hands.
weathered
calloused.
Weary.
Tired.

Experienced.

Ready?
Willing?
Eager?

Oh - I have so much to learn from these small hands.
I have much to teach, show, and aide with these here big hands, in return.

Where does the time go?  As we interlock hands.  It seems their hands fill mine more and more each day... they're not as little as they once were.  Will mine influence with good or "bad"?  It really does depend on matters of the heart what gets played out - handed out - handed over.  Hand -to -hand.

I grasp.
I cling.
I settle and rest... into the the very hands that hold mine

HIS HANDS...

Are all that matter.  They hold me, and my hands fit perfectly, learning from the Creator of these hands.

:Stop:

Welcome to Friday's Finds!  Where, today, we find a moment with busy hands..

Recently, I had been asking around if anyone would have an old, solid, tricycle, that they would be willing to let us buy or borrow, for a season, for Jayne to use this summer.  My Mom came to the rescue.  She had this one down in her basement for such times as this... when the grandkids would come over.  Well, currently - Jayne is the only "little one" and we often forget about it at Grandma's because there is always so much other fun stuff to do.

Grandma said we could have it for awhile.  Smile!!

Of course, this busy hand moment was a set up. Afterall, Old Tess is a vintage treasure. I've been wanting pictures...
But, it was a hot day, and the girls needed something to do and so they gave the bike a "carwash", per my suggestion. ;)  I had a couple of hands, on my hands, that needed some "busy work".  It didn't stop there. Soon EVERY BIKE - and scooter, we own and next the screen door and the porch all became part of the project... (Yes ~ I helped!!)

You should have seen our front yard...

Perfect way to spend a few moments outside cooling off... because you all know what eventually happened. Right?

Friday's Finds :: New fillin'-station...

.. .. .. .. .. ... .. ... ... ... .. .. .. .. ... .. ... ... .. . .. .

What do we have here?
A new gas fillin'-station, in town.

Welcome to Friday's Finds!!

Not long ago, my hubby was away, and the evening was still young.  The kids were begging for a bowl of ice cream, after dinner, and so, I piled ONE up high!
(Well, high enough!)

They, actually we, decided that their bikes were going to be their cars and that they would pull up for a spoonful of ice cream - as their fill up on gas.  All FREE, of course!!
Then. Off they would go again, till that wore off and their mouths/tanks were empty.  Round and round...

Fun way to share down a bowl of ice cream!
I can't say it was all fair, all of the time..

Here's the scoop!  Pretzels, with ice cream, is a must!  And, pictures, of said ice cream with pretzels, is a must as well...
because we all know that the 'real deal' doesn't last long.  Does it?

May your weekend be piled high - with blessings abundant.

Friday's Finds :: {to} My Kids Delight!

. .. .. .. ... .. .. ...... .. .. .. .. ... .. .... .. ... .. ... .
 Look what I've found...

Pictures of me that help to tell the story of me.  :)  Oh, I knew I had them... but you know forgetting why it was that they were just so happened to be tucked in between pages of an old book?  It was puzzling...to say the least, however, it was a fun moment for me to tell the kids "the bike story" all over again and this time they have a visual to go with it.

They beg...Tell us the story of the bike, Mom,...the one you got for your birthday...and shouldn't have.

Friday's Finds :: a lovely bunch of curls

. ... .. .. ... .. .. .... .. .. ... . ... . . .. .. ... . .. . ..

Purples and pinks.
Greens and bright blues.
Yellows and curls.
and as the day fades away..
So do I.

A walk around the yard will do that to you - when a certain little one chooses to not sleep well, through the night, the night before, I fade fast.  I can hardly hold my head up, today!  Still dealing with those allergies...
I guess.

Friday's Finds :: a Miracle...indeed.

. ... .... ... .... .... .. ... ... .. ... ... .... .. ... .. .. ..
On Monday of this week, Aubrey brought home a little craft  which they made in school.  Cute!!
You've all heard the expression, the question;

What are you doing; watching the grass grow?

That is literally what we were doing this week.  Though, there was nothing boring about it... at all!  We actually really enjoyed watching the grass grow.  Sometimes I honestly thought I saw it happening right before my very eyes and then I'd turn around and still more blades would burst "alive" in green!
This was life... happening... right in front of our very eyes.

This was Monday's photo, taken the day Aubrey brought this home from Preschool.

~Wednesday AM~

And then, finally, today! With a little bit of water and sunshine, this is what it looked like by Friday!

A miracle indeed.

Friend.  So, is the Death and Resurrection of our LORD & KING.
The cross stands empty.

So does the tomb.

HE LIVES!

Can our hearts get any fuller - with joy? His presence? His peace?
Yes! there is always room for more of this.  And that, too, is a miracle indeed.

Friday's Finds :: a Miracle...indeed.

Have you Easter plans?  We're planning to spend most of our Resurrection Sunday with Scott's Mom who lives out-of-state.  We'll be taking my Mom along for the ride..
We're looking forward to a wonderful time together.

The angel said to the woman, "Do not be afraid, for I know
that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.  He is not
here; he has risen, just as he said.  Come and see the place
where he lay."  ~ Matthew 28:5-6

Thank you for reading here!
And may your weekend be filled to the fullest of the GOOD NEWS!  Pass it on!

Friday's Finds :: Leep Balm

... .. .. .. ... .. .. .... . .. ... .. .. .. .. .... .. .. .. ... ..
It is often life's
smallest pleasures
and gentlest joys
that make the
biggest and most
lasting difference.
~ Unknown

Almost every. single. day.  I'll find this certain Little One in my purse for some "leep balm".  Oh, I wish you could hear her say it.  It's too funny.  I finally caught her in the act.
It's always one swipe across the lips and then she'll put it all back the way she found it.  Oh, and yes,  I do TRY to keep my purse outta reach (ahem!, yeah right! like it's out of her reach.)... but still.

It is kinda cute, to say the least.

So.  What are your plans for the weekend?
We're kinda packed around here.

Schedule-packed-busy, number one!

However; Scott and Caleb are all packed up for Caleb's first official, outdoor camping trip!
Sleeping in a tent in the backyard, which he's done before, doesn't count. That will be Friday night - Sunday Noon.  Yes! Even in the rain.  ;(

Me, the Mama will be holding down the fort. Treating the girls "out" for dinner...hitting up a grocery store or two.. and sewing!!  Sewing...after two little's are asleep.

Our final FPU class will be on Sunday afternoon.  We're planning a Celebration/ Party - at the same time... so, I'll also be busy prepping for that.

Thank you for reading, here and helping to make my corner of the world a much balmier place. I hope you feel the same way from me!

God Bless You and your weekend!

Friday's Finds :: The 5 Q's

. ..... ... ... ... ... ... .. ... ... .... ... ... ... .. ... ..
Oh, this was fun!  Here is something that happened a couple of weeks ago now - which we'll still count, for today, as our Friday's Finds!
Thanks for reading along..

Aubrey's class, in Preschool, is currently sharing in the honor of each student taking Curious George home with them for a couple of days at a time.  Aubrey's turn was a couple of weeks ago, as I mentioned, and I suppose this was just something fun to do to help break up the monotony of school during the winter season, etc.

While George was with us we were asked to keep a journal entry of the time George spent in our home and all of our activities.. and upon "his return to school"... he needed to have along 5 things that began with the letter "Q", so that lil Miss Aubrey could share them with her class.  As well. Aubrey needed to supply snack for her entire class!  So, as you and I can imagine, there have been a lot of bananas and monkey themed snacks that have been brought into school as part of this fun little project. - so Aubrey has said..

Hmmm... 5 things?  That start with "Q"..?

It didn't take long to come up with the five items of our choice.
Aubrey and I (actually all of our little family) thought about it together, for awhile, and here is what we came up with:

Quart Bag
Quarter
Q-tip
Question!  (Aubrey cut out the shape of a HUGE question mark and we wrote out a question on it - something that George may have asked the kids about school..you know?!? Only because the guy is so curious.  He's always asking questions..)

and, our favorite, a...

Quilt  Patch (which this included... actual quilting stitches with quilting thread, and a quilting needle - not just any size or kind, etc.)

Something that has come out of this is an introduction to sewing for Aubrey.  She has since been enjoying coming into my sewing room with me and stitching away on a few projects here and there...

Her ideas are marvelous and endless..and keep me in a

Quandary (to say the least)!  I couldn't resist... I love this word!  Quandary..
not that I love being in one. :)
