{BagsbyBevy} Country Crossroad

. .. ... . ... .. ... .. .. ... .. ... .. .. ... . . .. . . . ..
There is a newbie in the shop.  Just thought I'd share and let you know it's there.

Traffic has been a little slow - in both the coming and the going.
And, I've been just as much to blame. :)

Before another day passes.
I hope you'll stop by.
Enter.

::Country Crossroad::
{Oversized, Large Tote bag}

Take a look around BagsbyBevy before you move on!  I'd appreciate it.

Oh, and these tiptoed out of my hand, a couple of weeks ago - to a friend of mine for her new little baby boy!

My new tag-line for the shop is "two seams at a time".  It's true.  I've been a busy gal...
But, when I get to sewing I "slow down" a bit and it really does relax.

Even if I only get two seams sewn at a time - before something else calls me away. :)

Thank you for reading here today!!

{day 14} Home Quotes and Sentiments :: Something you made... and GIVEAWAY!!

.. . .. .... .. .... ... . .... .. .... .. ... .. ... ... .. . .. . .
While writing for 31 days on one overall theme (HOME!) and doing my best to stay within the 5 Minutes of Free Writing... each day (for the month of October), I sure do appreciate doing the photo challenge and the fact that each day's photo prompt pretty much flows with my HOME theme.
Isn't that nice?

Well, today's photo prompt is: Something you made...
Obviously, I've chosen something I've recently sewn..
Actually, I finished it up yesterday afternoon. :)

You all might know that I have my own Etsy Shop and I would say it's been feeling a bit neglected here of late.  Totally, my fault... mostly, because there hasn't been a whole lot of *new* items placed in there!

Well, in order to revive the momentum a bit.  I've decided to throw all, well... almost all of the challenge rules  and whatever to the side (meaning, this is no 5 minute post and it isn't really about HOME!) and I've decided to throw you a curveball instead.  How about a...SURPRISE!!!!

:: GIVEAWAY ::

Here is the latest bag...
from
BAGS by BEVY

This Medium Classic Tote is named Roots Run Deep!
I name all of my bags (most of the items, in my shop, with a few exceptions) in order to give them distinction and personality. :)  Some have stories behind their name and reasons.. :)
Don't ask me why this is one named what it is... it was just something that came to me; something I liked.   "Roots Run Deep" is a fact; a true statement of my life.

I come with roots that run deep!
Maybe this is where the HOME Quotes and Sentiments part comes in...

Family roots...
Sewing roots...
Roots in house rules...
traditions, too!

I could share many, many more...
I'm so grateful to God for the roots that run deep in my heart and soul...
There have been lots of storms along the way and that is when and why the roots only delve in deeper.

Don't forget who you are and where've you come from.

Bags by Bevy :: Priscilla's Piece

. ..... ... ... .. ... .. .. .. ... . .. ... . ... .. ... .. ... ..
Priscilla's Piece:  The story comes together, something like this...

I received a phone call the other week, and the older woman on the other end proceeds to explain who she is and how I should know her.  Her elderly, warbled voice doesn't ring a bell to me but who, she explains, that I should know - meaning one of her sister in laws (named Mary - who is also related to me through my mom's side of the family, by marriage) and the fact that I once worked with her daughter (Janice), does!

It all started coming back.  Yes! Now I'm starting to remember...  I do (faintly) remember being at her house once, with her daughter..but why?  I have no idea.

And Priscilla was excited!  You could hear that in her voice.  She had an idea!!

She explained that she had come to a point where she was going through some of her things.  Fabrics, buttons and such and was planning to take some things to the local thrift store... when she came across this "unfinished piece of needlework".  She wondered if she should pass it on, as it was! or keep it and finish it herself.  She decided to take the time to complete the piece.

While working on it...the thought came to her of getting it made into something.  Something special or useful. She said, she remembered her sister-in-law, Mary, once showing her a bag that she had had...and thought to ask her where it came from.  As Mary then gave her my information, and what I do, Priscilla called me to see what could be done about this.  Would I be able to incorporate this needlework piece into a bag, somehow?

I told her I would take a look at it... and that we would go from there.

The day came when the weather cleared enough (remember those weeks of nothing but snow??) when she told me that her husband could finally drive her over, to our place.
Priscilla came to the door, that day, with her cane in hand - so excited!- and couldn't wait to show me what she had.  And to tell me what she saw "in this bag"... wondering if it could have this? And, if it could have that?

We talked about details and I didn't like that I had to turn some of them down (her ideas!)... but she understood and resolved to whatever I could do to make this work out for her.  She knew she wanted a pocket on the inside that had a place or two for a pen.  She knew she needed a single strap to wear across her shoulder.  With her condition, she has a hard time handling a purse on her forearm.  She also knew she wanted a closure of some sort but she wasn't so sure, what?  She even brought along another bag because she really liked that bag's size...

She had this well thought out..

A couple of days later, she came by the house again (this time, driving herself) with a box of buttons she had gathered up..

Another time... several spools of thread, she no longer needed!

And, each time - she would nearly leave her cane behind...the giddy-of-a-schoolgirl shining through in getting herself a *NEW BAG*!

This made me smile and it was a privilege to make this "custom" bag for her.  Which, custom is something I certainly do shy away from..just for the record...and one I have to be reminded of often, thanks to my hubby!  Basically:  I do very little in CUSTOM orders...

I sure do hope Priscilla gets a lot of use out of her bag!!  And that this spring-like piece suits her just fine. Violas are perfect for this time of year, after all..  Don't you think?

Thinking of you today, as well, Kate.  To explain.  This skirt was gifted -the other week - to an older gal-friend of my daughter Aubrey.  Aubrey picked the fabric because she knew that Kate loves "Red".

We named it "Daisy Love"..

Can you tell we are getting ready for Spring?  I mean, really, really ready...

Hope you got to enjoy some warmer weather today or at least some sunshine!  I know we did!  I don't know how many robins we saw today...

:: Warm Summer Day :: (a Bags by Bevy update)

. .... . .. ... .. ... ... .. .. ... .. ... .... .. .. ... .. .. .. .. .
I haven't posted anything regarding my etsy shop, for a long while!!

So, I wanted to let you know that it is still there!

It's kinda been quiet around the fringes and on the edges - but let me tell you, it's heart beats strong (and cattywampus like - all at the same time)!

In fact.  Just today, this morning - I ran into JoAnn Fabrics... you know to kinda stock up on some stuff and have a look around.  And, I always, always come out of there (or places of the like!), feeling "overwhelmed", inspired and determined... to hang in there and keep going.

I have an over-the-shoulder bag in the works, right now, whose details/clarifications just got confirmed and given the okay on, just the other evening... that I absolutely HAVE to FINISH! In my opinion - yesterday.  But Annie assured me... it's all good!  In her words... "I just want you to have fun while making it.  Whenever... it gets done.  It'll get done."

I realized, this morning, I have another pair of Homespun Baby! Shoes I was to make - which I had completely forgotten about (long story!) -  due sometime this week.  Oops!  (that makes me feel and look bad..)
(AND, I should be working on them right this instant...but, it doesn't take me long to whip them up! I'll get to them.  Little secret, about me... I work best under pressure!)

However, with all the worry of them not being done in time - I just hung up the phone with the lady who ordered them and GRACE she gave..she doesn't actually need them until Sunday.  Shew!!

And, with all of this talk regarding all of this stuff... the gal who was watching my little ones for me this morning ended up purchasing this one... on the spot!  Because she said, she couldn't resist.

EEeekk!!

May I leave you, my dear reader, with this A.W. Tozer thought as you go about your weekend?

God, I have tasted Thy goodness, and it has both satisfied me and made me thirsty for more. I am painfully conscious of my need for further grace.  I am ashamed of my lack of desire. O God, the Triune God, I want to want Thee; I long to be filled with longing;  I thirst to be made thirsty still.

I'm crossing my fingers, but I am planning on hosting another Mugs & Muffins this coming Monday.
Just in time for Valentine's Day!
If you're not sure what I'm talking about, you can go HERE to read it's introduction.

I've got something and someone very special scheduled to share with us.  I hope you'll be back.

I've had a lot of fun doing this over this past year and would like to continue on with it through out this year of 2013.  I know its February... and sort of missed a spot in January, but we'll just pretend that the post - Fireside Chat covered that one.

Well, that's it for today.  I'm working on a Blessing Meal to take to someone - a family from our church - who just recently adopted an older, little girl from China.  Just because...

So today, I've got a lot going on and with that, I'm wondering - Where is all the snow?
I'll be thinking of all those folks up in New England...

Happy Weekend!  See you Monday.

:: Evergreen for Me :: Giveaway Winner, announced.

And the lovely winner, by random generator, is...

Chris Ann Shultz

I had asked a question something along the lines of, "What you were grateful to leave behind for the year of 2012
and what it was you are anticipating in the coming New Year".
This was Chris' reply comment...

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I will miss December too.. my favorite month of the year.. activity wise..

What I won't mind leaving behind is the pain of grief and loss.. that I have experienced the past 8 years.. 2005-2012 (pain continued through the first 1/2/ 3/4 of the year.)

Looking forward to God's continued RESTORATION.. my word of the year.. and just recently.. Chantel (my daughter) mentioned her desire for baptism.. so thinking about that.. and moving along in that direction when the church will allow age wise.. :-) Very proud of her.. as she makes so many decisions and she thinks seriously about her life and future.

The bag looks great.. enter my into your contest.. thanks. Chris Schultz

Chris Ann.  I have your mailing address.  I will get this bag out to you, ASAP.  Thank you for entering.
 ***

In my original post, I also said how each of my bags are named, where sometimes there is a story as to how each one got it's name and sometimes there isn't one.
For this one, I wasn't so sure what the story was or why I named it what I did.

Now, I know why it was named "Evergreen for Me".

Apparently...perhaps?... .just maybe...

Chris needs a daily constant reminder, over her shoulder, of the Lord's Everlasting Hope for her day-to-day.
Because she talked about RESTORATION.  Her word, for the year.

Evergreen - is the name of a tree that stays ever green.  It speaks of life.
Her true hope is in the Lord Jesus Christ.  I know she knows that.  But somehow I hope by using this bag -on a daily basis, or as she chooses - that it will just be a testament to the goodness and kindness of God - who is her Soul-Restorer.

Amen?

Have a good and fabulous weekend.  Blessings as you go.

Bags by Bevy - make an appearance!

. .... . .. ... . .. . .. .. .. .. .. ... . .. ... .. ... .. ... ... .. .. . ... .. ... . .. ..  ... .
Today, I thought I would show what I did this past Saturday.  I was invited to a Holiday Open House at the home of a dear friend of mine, with about nine other vendors.  It was absolutely FUN for me to get out, set up a little display and talk to people.

This was something I've never done before... in this regard.  And, yes! I was a little nervous.  But it helped to be at a place (someones home!) that I was familiar with.  I decided to "be comfortable" by sitting and sewing on a Pocket Pouch that I planned to add to the "thank you" gift that we gave to our friends who's home we used.
This photo shows the pouch without the hand sewing...You can see the pile of thread underneath the scissors.  I'm getting ready to add the blanket stitch around the perimeter of the pouch.

I hosted a ::Giveaway:: on Saturday.  And that was to give away this bag... which actually, I only finished up on Friday night.  This photo was taken in the beautiful early morning light - before the Open House.

Winter Wonderland - went to a lady by the name of Lorene D.

Congratulations, Lorene!  She seemed so thrilled to have been the chosen one.  Which made me happy, too!  I personally know this lady a little bit... and it fits her perfectly.

The only "sale" I made, Saturday, was with the two other Pocket Pouches that are here on the front of the table.  Except that those were made "after hours".  Totally fine with me.  Oh, and another friend said that if She didn't win the drawing that she would like a something similar in color and style - so I guess in theory, that is another sale.

All in all.  I am so glad that I did this.  It was a lot of fun.  And.  Yes! I made Cinnamon Rolls to add to the food/refreshment table, which reminds me I promised the recipe, to the other vendors. Christmas music was playing... it felt and smelled like Christmas!  Oh... and I found some fun things to buy from the other gals... of course.

By the way!  One of my friends, Kristin, is a *new* consultant for Blessings Unlimited.  YES!  I signed up for a Gathering to be hosted in my home...I'm very, very excited about this.  I can not wait to have this happen the end of this month.  Local friends... keep this in mind.  You'll be hearing from me. ;)

I also want to say that my most favorite part of the day was seeing my husband walk through the door (totally surprised me!) - just to come by and show me his support.  That REALLY made my day... and I told him so! ;)

Until next time...
Come by here - Bags by Bevy - and make me have to change my display.  {smile!}  You know?  Add some new stuff...

Christmas is coming...

Warm Summer!

.. . . .. . .. . . .. . . .. . .. . .. . .. . .. . . . .. . .. . .. . . .. . . ... .. . . .. . .. .
Yesterday, and today, are supposed to be pretty warm days, around here.  Actually kinda HOT!  I don't know what they're calling for, for tomorrow.  But why worry about tomorrow, right?

I thought it would be kinda appropriate to take the time today to show you a bag I made for a dear friend of mine...who's summer looks like it's going to be a bit of a crazy summer.  I wanted to bless her with this... for a way to keep her self together in all of their comings and goings.  For you, my dear friend ~ Kristy!

:: Warm Summer ::

 Overnight Style Bag

In fact, yesterday.  I was able to spend the whole day with this friend of mine.  Our kids - play so well together, even though hers are a lot older then mine.  It always warms my heart!

The one thing about yesterday - while the day was a scorcher (today is to be worse!) - we didn't even notice it, at least for the most part.  Her home is semi-air conditioned and we were comfortable.  We didn't have to go out doors.  But, we did! - into her garden... so cute.  Tasted a few raspberries, trimmed a rose bush, admired her hydrangeas and tomatoes, etc.

Not to mention.  The pleasure of being in their home, as a whole - the company, the hospitality, the conversation, the visit over coffee & fudge (most decadent) ... all of it... was warm.

Comfortable.

Most of all...Refreshing.

What a wonderful warm, summer day!!

Promise(s) Kept ::: {a giveaway!}

.. . . .. . .. .. . .. . . .. . .. . . . ... .. .. .. .. . .. . ... ..
You know you're blessed when your husband is excited to receive, use and own a bag (all his own) lovingly hand made by his wife.

I was able to finish this bag up, earlier this past weekend, after I had, had it started back before his birthday.  I was trying to surprise Scott with it - but he found out about it and kept asking for it to be finished, so that he could use it as an overnight bag for when he went up to my sister and brother-in-law's, to go deer hunting.  It happened.  I kept my promise and he was able to use it this past weekend.

(he actually bagged himself a deer - 5 point buck)

Too bad, the fabric is not of deer and hunting stuff... however... he loves to "fish", too.  I thought it manly enough and have dubbed this bag, in honor of my man...

I have also been meaning to make a pair of baby shoes for Jayne.  Sorry, little one, that these took such a long time in coming.  But, I know you "love them" and you do look darling in them - as if you're not darling enough.

They are finally finished - a promise kept.

In case you're wondering.  My etsy shop has still been on the slow side.  I'm hoping to keep plugging away at it to keep filling it up.  I have recently changed the name of my shop from BAGS BY BEVY to "A Bevy of Old and New".  I'm hoping to incorporate more then just bags... as you know.  Things like more accessories, baby shoes, and vintage items.

So far, there are only two *new* linen brooches in there as well as two bags.  One of them is on Sale - trying to get it to move.  I believe I made it last Spring.

I did have one bag (Winter's Reflection- small bag), sell for me, over the weekend.  Thank you, Rachel A.!!!!!

I also want to say Thank You! to Amanda and Denise for recently giving me a shout-out, regarding my etsy shop, on each of their blogs.  That always makes me feel warm and fuzzy...knowing that I have friends who are rooting me on talking about me.  ;)

And now... I'm not holding out any longer.

How about a giveaway!!  I've been wanting to do another one for awhile, now.  Like I said, things have been slow.  (It's my fault, completely - but babies change everything, don't they?)  But... this time I would like to give away one of my *new* Linen Brooches.  The photo(s) below are of the same brooch.  In the shop, however, are two others (different buttons) - if you win and you like one of those better, let me know - I'll work with ya.

To enter, just simply leave a comment telling me in three words, or so, what you love best about the Christmas Season.  That's it.

Spread the cheer, then come back here, and in a separate comment letting me know that you did and how you did, for another chance to win.

Hope to hear from you!  Oh yea, this giveaway ends this Friday, at midnight, Eastern.  Winner will be announced on Monday.

"Bosse in Blue"

. . .. . .. . . . .. . . . .. . . . .. . . . . .. . . . . . . . .. .  ..

"Bosse in Blue"
{pronounced; boss-eh}
SOLD to Jen F.

I realized I didn't get a chance take the time to *brag* on this bag yet.  Not that I want it to sound like I'm bragging... but you know what I mean.  This here bag was one of the orders I needed to finish before the month of August came around.  So said "my boss".

My blogging and IRL (in-real-life) friend Jen had asked me if I would make her a Large/Over-the-Shoulder Tote bag for herself, to use as a diaper bag.  She was due with her baby about the same time frame as I was due with my baby (August 28/29th).  My goal was to have everything caught up before August.   Well.  That sorta happened - not before - but within the month - just days before  Jayne (my daughter) was born.   A little too close for comfort for me.

Jen was hilarious in her pregnancy. She often referred to herself as "large and in charge".  She knew she was having a boy... and she also knew she was going to have a big baby - just like I was told I would, for myself.   We ended up having our babies a week apart and her little guy was three ounces bigger then our Jayne - who weighed in at 9lbs 12oz. and 21" long.  {read here}

So, when it came time to name this bag... I would think back to the "large and in charge" phrase and I really toyed with the idea of naming it that.  I wasn't sure.

The name "Bosse in Blue" (pronounced boss-eh) is rather made up, I will admit.  Beings the bag is a navy blue and it's on the large(r) side...I don't know....all I do know is that I can't even come up with a reason (a clear definitive reason) as to why I named it what I did.  It just sounded good.

And, there you have it.  The last bag I made to date.

That said.

I recently got another whole stack of some great lookin' upholstery fabric samples... and I'm itchin' to get stitchin'.  When I do get around to it, I'm planning to kick off my comeback with a bag giveaway.  I haven't had one of those in awhile... and, quite honestly, I do not want you to forget about Bags by Bevy!

 Please, don't forget about me.

Shew!!  That's pretty much where I've been.  I didn't realize there was so much to show you.

Again, I'm currently still working on a few special orders that need to be in by August before my baby comes.  Apologizing that there isn't much to show for in my etsy shop.

One of these days there will be some more choices.

Speaking of.
Since today is the First Day of Summer...let's kick it off with a Sale!

** The two bags listed in my etsy shop are now on SALE for $25.00/each.  Regularly priced at $35.00 **
